Travertine price index market estimates

Travertine runs roughly $8 to $40 per square foot at Western warehouses (market estimates, August 2026): tumbled and unfilled tiles at the bottom of the range, filled and honed premium select and vein-cut slabs at the top. Turkey and Iran dominate supply; factory-direct tiles, pavers and cladding processed in China or Turkey typically land 30–60% below Western warehouse prices.

Slab prices in USD per square foot for polished 2 cm (3/4") slabs, ex-warehouse. Ranges are market estimates compiled from published supplier pricing, August 2026. Factory-direct quotes from our partner mill in China are typically 30–60% below Western warehouse prices; verified factory pricing is being added.

Filled or unfilled, honed or tumbled

Travertine is a porous limestone with natural pits. "Filled" means the pits are grouted with cement or resin at the factory for a smooth surface; "unfilled" leaves them open for a rustic look. Honed is a smooth matte finish, tumbled is aged and softened at the edges, and polished is rare — travertine takes a mirror finish poorly. Vein-cut slabs (cut along the bedding) show linear striations and cost more than cross-cut.

Is travertine outdated?

The Tuscan-kitchen look of the 2000s is dated; travertine itself is not. Large-format honed ivory travertine, vein-cut cladding and unfilled tumbled pavers around pools are firmly back in contemporary and Mediterranean-modern design. Choose format and finish, not the material, when worrying about trends.

Frequently asked questions

How much does travertine cost per square foot?

About $8–$40 per square foot at Western warehouses (market estimates, August 2026): budget tumbled tiles at the low end, premium filled and honed select and vein-cut slabs at the top.

Is travertine cheaper than marble?

Yes, substantially — most travertine costs a third to a half of comparable marble tile, which is why it is the go-to for large floors and outdoor areas.

Is travertine good for pool decks?

It is one of the best: cool underfoot, naturally slip-resistant when unfilled or tumbled, and durable in freeze-thaw when a dense grade is chosen and sealed.

Can I buy travertine factory-direct?

Yes — Turkey processes it at scale and Chinese mills cut tiles, pavers and cladding from Turkish and Iranian blocks; container-load pricing is typically 30–60% below Western warehouse prices before freight.
