That jumbo premium is wider than the 10–15% you’ll see quoted for marble jumbo, and the reason is geology, not markup. Quartzite is sandstone that has been recrystallised by heat and pressure into an interlocking mass of quartz grains — a genuinely different formation path from marble (recrystallised limestone) or granite (cooled magma). The slab-size angle on this that gets missed: format choice changes total fabrication cost, not just material cost. A seamless jumbo island top has one edge to profile and zero field seams to fabricate and polish. The same island built from two standard slabs pieced together needs a seam cut, a seam polish, and usually a resin-and-clamp join — all billed at the same hardness-adjusted per-linear-foot rate that makes quartzite fabrication expensive in the first place. How to sanity-check a quartzite slab quote
- Get the petrographic classification in writing. Several stones sold as quartzite — Super White among them — are dolomitic marble.
